Jasper National Park From Vancouver to the Candian Rockies & back in 10 days
Posted: Wed May 20, 2009 03:10 PM UTC
Hi all,

We are 2 adults and a 12 yr kid planing a round trip by car from Vancouver.
Are 10 day enough? What is the recommended rout, considering main attractions? Nice places stay over night? Are there any local festivals during August that we should attend?

Thank you in advance,
Meir

I think that 10 days would enough time.
When I was younger and my family would go to Jasper, one place I really liked going was Miette Hot Spring. It's on top of mountain, I loved going up the winding road and the hot springs is such a relaxing place.
The Jasper area has great lakes and tourist places to vist such as Columbia Icefields(located on the boundries of the Banff and Jasper National Park)
Another place I like going is Banff, they have great hikes and walks some are even in the city.
The Enchanted Forest which is by Revelstoke, B.C. It's great places for young and old. You can climb BC's tallest tree house, paddle in real beaver ponds, walk the wetland boardwalk and see the Giant Cedar Stump House. http://www.enchantedforestbc.com/
I hope this has helped.

Yes, 10 days is enough time, although you'll be travelling something like 1600 km return, so hopefully your family is up to a few days with fairly big miles. You might consider driving to Kamloops the first day (~4 hours from Vcr), then take the Yellowhead highway north to Jasper. Spend 3-5 days in Jasper, visiting Miette Hot Springs, Maligne Lake, Mt. Edith Cavell as separate day trips. Then drive the Icefields Parkway south to Lake Louise. Would be nice to spend one night on the Parkway. Most accomodation, other than hostels, is quite expensive, but Saskatchewan River Crossing Resort is relatively inexpensive. (Icefields Chalet, Num-Ti_Jah Lodge are more expensive). Worth it to spend one night at Lake Louise, or stay in nearby Yoho National Park. Don't worry if you don't get to Banff. Then head back to Vancouver via the Trans-Canada. En route, Revelstoke has a very interesting Railway museum and free tours of the Revelstoke Dam. Salmon Arm and Sorrento have beaches on beautiful Shuswap Lake.
