i heard the bar area at chewang beach was having a makover last christmas. is that still the case. if the place is still a building site i will go to lamai beach instead. can anyone advise

I was in Chaweng in March and everything was pretty much as usual then.

The only area that had a makeover early this year is the area where Peter Pan was located. Soi Green Mango and most of the other bars are still intact. There has been a lot of owner change recently though.

You would not see London Inn and Kangaroo Bar anymore. The owner has combined them together and it is now called Hush Bar. Club 69 has just closed down and we are not sure what the new owner is going to do with it. Cockwell Inn (or previously known as Fish n Chips) has also been sold and the new owner will be opening a Mexican bar there. There is no opening date yet.

However, due to the quiet season, Mint Bar is now open only on Fridays and Saturdays. Sound Bar and Solo Bar takes turns to open till 6am. There is another new little girly bar opened just after Green Mango.

So, please do visit Chaweng. It is definitely not a building site.
