Tangier Travel Forum

I want to join a day tour to Tangier, I read from LP that FRS offers this tour. however some traveller feefback that FRS tour is bad as they bring traveller to carpet shop and herb shop..... I can search quite a lot information of other travel agencies or private guide who provide such tour, is there any suggestion which one I should pick just to see the tradition and real part of Tangier? and how is the usual price for the tour with round trip ferry tickets.

Whatever you do you will at somepoint end up in a carpet shop.

Hi you could easily do it yourself - read back through the forum posts and similar question has been asked and answered which would be give you some ideas of how to go about it - and you can also get an official guide in Tangier to take you around though that makes the price the tours/even the FRS tours quite a good price - though Id sort of still think youd get a better deal on your own and paying for an official guide if you wish - I can imagine youd probably end up spending an hour or two just in a carpet shop if with a group and going slow in the shopping area.

Return ferry tickets from Tangier - which go and come back every 2 hours and take only 40 minutes cost me 56 euro or something - an official tour guide in Tangier probably charges 30-50 euro for a half day.
If you do then read your LP again and get more prepared so you dont show up so blatantly as a brand new visitor to Morocco and easy pickings!

but you can have a really good time. I still like Tangier regardless that a number of tourists, but usualy because theyre unprepared or travelling there unaware of how things are, complain of the hustle.

I'm with Angiebabe. Do it by yourself. There aren't really any major must-see thaings in Tangier and the medina is best appreiated wandering around doing what you want to do rather than being bossed around by a guide.

Having said that, Tangier is pretty tout-heavy, and hiring a lcal 'guide' will at least keep all the other ones off your back.

MY answer is do not go.. It is a waste of time and money. we spent over 100 us dollars for this cheesy trip. It was stressful. If u like being harassed ( EVEN WITH A GUIDE) AND U LIKE TO GO TO A TOURISTY RESTAURANT FOR CRAPPY FOOD, STOP BY THE WATER TO RIDE ON SMELLY CAMELS, THEN BY ALL MEANS GO. WE ALSO DID NOT SEE ANY BEAUTIFUL SIGHTS.

The above post illustrates precisely why a day trip to Tangier is such a bad idea. Go when you have the time to see more of the country than just Tangier, you won't be disappointed then.
