Chile advice on what not to miss

from santiago i was going to take the train down to lake district, is there anything i should see on the way down, or would the bus be better. How long does the train take (should i get a sleeper) and what is the cost for sleeper.

The train does not go as far as the lake district. There are no sleepers. You can get it as far as Chillan and then take a bus but it makes more sense to bus all the way.An overnight bus takes 9-12 hours, depending on where you are going.

I agree that a bus is a better way to go than the train. EFE, the company that runs the trains, is notoriously unreliable. Where exactly in the Lake District is your final destination? I could make some suggestions of places on the way with that info and also to know what your interests might be.

Of the top of my head though I would say Santa Cruz, Pucon, Valdivia, Puerto Varas.

Cheers, Rhianon
