Singapore BTF ferry to Airport
Posted: Tue May 19, 2009 06:43 PM UTC
hi,

we are getting the ferry from bintan to BTF, arriving at 16:10. We are then catching an onward flight to Bangkok, and have a choice of three budget flights at 18:20, 19:30 and 20:30. We would very much like to catch the 18:20, but obviously its cutting it fine. Does anyone know
1. How reliable is the ferry (travelling in July)?
2. How long it takes to get customs?
3. How long it takes to get from the ferry to the airport (either the budget terminal or the main one)?

generally any thoughts on whether its feasible to catch the 18:20 or indeed whether we should catch the late flight would be most appreciated.

thanks
Tony

Better take the latest flight and be safe than sorry. The ferry is reliable and getting through customs is not a problem if you are off the ferry near the front. The problem is getting from the ferry terminal to the airport. Last time it took us 1 hour to BOOK a taxi. During that time only 2 taxis came through randomly (and this is a frequent occurrence). If you are lucky, the airline will let you go on the earlier flight (as it means they can re-sell your seats on the later one!) if you get there on time.
There is a list of taxi booking numbers at the taxi stand - be ready to call it when you arrive if there is a queue.

thanks for the info, very helpful indeed. Is it possible to prebook a taxi? We are leaving via the ferry three days beforehand

You can pre-book a taxi by calling one of the taxi companies. The biggest one is comfort and their number is 65521111. I would call them when you start receiving Singapore coverage on the ferry. That way you will have a better idea as to your arrival time at the terminal (and then give yourself another 30 mins to get through customs etc).
