Hi

I am looking for a traihn that will take me up the Douro and then I would like to take a cruise down the Douro. Can anyone point me in the right direction or to a web site?

The train is here:
http://www.cp.pt/ The trick to get a train to Pinhao, after you click on the little british flag for english, look on the upper right, the little timetable tab, click on that.

Then if going to Pinhao, pick the Sao Bento station to Pinhao.

Then drop DouroAzul a note http://www.douroazul.pt/ - check their timetables. Make sure you check if the boat is going up or down (from or to Porto, and the days). You can sail back without taking the full tour.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, personally I don't want to be in the boat all day, so I'm taking a different option with a shorter tour. Not sure if the Vintage House people will offer the same 2-hour tour if you're not staying there.

By the way, I'll be taking the early train to Pinhao the 26th of this month, so if that's the day you're traveling maybe we get to meet on the way ;=) I do have my boat arranged, so I will check in and go right to the rabelo.

We are traveling june 17-july 5

First check the Douroazul site as mentioned above, as they offer tours including train (to Pinhao - from Porto or Peso da Regua) and back to Peso da Regua by boat (and if required by train than back to Porto) This is a day trip at Euros 64 p.p., including a lunch on board, which was not really outstanding.
You can book online on their site. I managed to pay the trip cash on the boat as payment by credit card was not possible.
Going up the Douro by train and return to Porto in one day is too long a trip and is not offered. I have a few pictures on my Portugal site.

I have just come back on the train from Regua to Porto with a boat load of Douro Azul people, who had made their way upriver from Porto on the all day cruise. The train leaves Regua at 1659 and gets back to Porto at 1840. They add extra cars to the train to accommodate the cruise people.
