Ho Chi Minh City Single traveller

I'll be travelling solo for the first time to Vietnam this June, and will be in Ho Chi Minh for 2 nights. I've been browsing for hostels to stay in but noticed that most of the rooms does not have rates for single traveller. They don't seem to have dorm rooms, and the most they could accommodate is a private en-suite, which is a bit out of my budget. Help please?

And if you have any travelling tips for first time solo traveller, do let me know.

Cheers!

There is a place in D Bui Vien (Pham Ngu Lao area, mentioned in Loneley Planet, don´t remember the name) near D De Tham, $ 7, but in the very small alley´s nearby you can find rooms with bath and tv for $ 10 (march 09). If you arrive after the last city bus (~18-19 ?) at the airport, Motorcycletaxi is cheaper, but you need very good nerves.

In the backpackers district ( Pham Ngu Lao Road and surrounding streets) are quite lot of hostels, guesthouses, hotels. It is very easy to find a place to sleep in every price category. They are all next to each other, you don't have to walk far. Just ask for the price and have a look at the room, before you decide. It is really very easy. I travelled solo in Vietnam in June 2006 and 2008 and didn't book anything in advance. I prefer to see the room first before I decide. Last time in Ho Chi Minh I paid 15$ for big room with nice bathroom, airco,tv and outside window, but you can find much cheaper if you want too.
In this area (Pham Ngu Lao Road) you find a lot of tour agencies where you can book tours and bustickets. Also a lot of restaurants, bars, shops, atm's terminals.
Enjoy your trip.
