Re: The perfect way to relax in Copenhagen Posted: Tue May 19, 2009 01:04 PM UTC
Hi
Thanks to a town planner many years ago the areas around the old ramparts of Copenhagen have been transformed into green city parks. Therefore you’ll today find quite a few green areas in the city centre (Kastellet, Østre Anlæg, Botanisk Have and Ørstedsparken). Besides that we have the beautiful garden Kongens Have around Rosenborg Castle and Frederiksberg Have/Søndermarken near Frederiksberg Palace. The gardens and parks are all very nice places for walking, sunbathing, relaxing or a picnic…
A little north of Copenhagen (at Klampenborg Station), Dyrehaven is located and it is also a nice place. Dyrehaven covers a huge area but from Klampenborg Station you can take a ride with a horse-drawn carriage through the park.
Dragør, about 12km south of Copenhagen, could also be an option. It is an old fishing village and the old part with its yellow houses and cobbles streets is nice. It takes around 45-60 minutes with public bus from the centre of Copenhagen to Dragør.
Modern art galleries:
Outside Copenhagen:
Arken (http://www.arken.dk/content/us) - located in Ishøj, 20km south of Copenhagen.
Louisiana (http://www.louisiana.dk/dk/Service+Menu+Right/English) located in Humlebæk north of Copenhagen. (The museum also has a nice garden).
In the centre of Copenhagen:
Copenhagen Contemporary Art Center (http://www.kunsthallennikolaj.dk/en/) - which is located in the former Nikolaj Church at Nikolaj Plads.
Kunsthal Charlottenborg (http://www.kunsthalcharlottenborg.dk/?lang=eng) at Kongens Nytorv.
Kunstforeningen Gammel Strand (http://www.glstrand.dk/English/index.htm) located at Gammel Strand.
I believe the museums all have changing exhibitions so check out their web pages before you go.
Regards,
Klaus
