Aussie Cop dropping in on LA Posted: Mon May 18, 2009 04:16 AM UTC
Hi. My best mate since I was 5 and I are travelling to the U.S from Sydney getting into LA on Thursday 20 August. We will be there for the Weekend and then hiring Harleys and riding up the coast to San Fransisco and across to Yosemite and down ending up in Vegas for a few days from weekend of the 29 August.
We would love to know where would be a great place to stay and hang out with some locals and tell a few stories over a few beers. We would love to do an aussie bbq cookup if any LA locals would be up for hosting a bit of a day/night of it and get a local crowd together.
Would love to hear from anyone in LA or might be on the trip on the way along.
Cheers
Hamish & Rohan

G'day,
Not certain I can make it to LA but if I'm visiting my daughter at the time we'll link up.
However, on the northern trip to SF, would be great if you stopped by to have a brew or two at Pete's Brass Rail and Car Wash in Danville, CA. We're just 35 miles from SF and if you ride up Hwy 5 we're right on the way.
If on the other hand you take Hwy 101/Hwy 1, well, then we'll just be forced to take you to a pub in SF. Got a couple of uniformed friends that ride that hopefully can make the meet.
Cheers
Al

Take the Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco. I-5 on Harleys will be a mouthful of bugs on a flat straight road. There are a lot of nice towns along the way. I would spend less time in Los Angeles and more time on the road and in the SF area. Enjoy

Welcome, Mates, Los Angeles has a few hot biker spots I know of that if visited on the weekend, Saturday or Sunday or both days, the parking lots will be full of hogs. Think of hiring out your bikes on Saturday morning so you can take in the Santa Monica beach ride to Malibu/Zuma and arrive at "Neptune's Net" Seafood outdoor restaurant on PCH, beach location. Great seafood and lots of bikers. See website:http://www.neptunesnet.com/
The next hot spot for either day is the "Sagebrush Cantina" Mexican restaurant in the southwest end of the San Fernando Valley in Calabasas. You can take PCH to Malibu Canyon Road to Hwy 101 east to Valley Circle Blvd and right to the Cantina. See website: http://www.sagebrushcantina.com/
The third one I visit now and then is a Sunday type of happening,at the "Rock Store" in Cornell/Agoura, near Calabasas/Malibu. Even USA TV "The Tonight Show" host, Jay Leno, may show up. A real fair dinkum, mates. All types of bikes, modern and antiques such as the Indian bikes are usually on display. Lots of bike talk. See Website: http://www.rock-store.com/
I will be out of town on a trip to Catalina, a local one town Island off the coast of Southern California that week or I would jump to rock up and have a barbie with ya. It's a big holiday weekend May 22 to May 25 so a lot of bikers will be hitting the pavement. Have fun in the sun.

Sorry, read wrong, thought you were coming in this coming Thursday. lol Well, I just might be in town the weekend of August 22-23. List a location for a VT get together with date and time to see how many may show up. Hey, even Mr. G, VT's manager may show. A great place to have a get together for a barbie is a Ventura County state park up the road about 20 miles from Malibu/Zuma on PCH called Sycamore Cove State Beach where drinking beer is legal, but no glass is allowed at the park. Barbie pits, picnic tables and toilets with parking for vehicles. There is an entrance fee for the day. Beach side on the sand. They do close down at 10 pm.

Thanks mate. Really appreciate the time to reply. I will compile some sort of itinery. Was figuring just doing a barbie at someones place with them and their friends but open to options. A park thing might be a bit to organise since we are one bikes n stuff. Keep in touch and can sort something out.

Stay on Beverly is similar to a hostel on Beverly Blvd and not related to Beverly Hills at all but more downtown LA, not in a tourist area. I had a mfg. plant about 1 mile away at Vermont and Beverly. If hostel are your thing and you want to be in a crowded local area, it may work for you. I would stay in the Santa Monica area for hanging out with locals.
