Las Vegas Aussie Cop visiting Vegas

Hi. My best mate since I was 5 and I are travelling to the U.S from Sydney getting into LA on Thursday 20 August. We will be there for the Weekend and then hiring Harleys and riding up the coast to San Fransisco and across to Yosemite and down ending up in Vegas for a few days from weekend of the 29 August.

We would love to know where would be a great place to stay and hang out with some locals and tell a few stories over a few beers. We would love to do an aussie bbq cookup if any locals would be up for hosting a bit of a day/night of it and get a local crowd together.

Would love to hear from anyone in Vegas or might be on the trip on the way along.

Cheers

Hamish & Rohan

You might check out a "small" hotel on Flamingo called Hooters.

If you're looking for more of a locals experience you'll need to get away from the Strip. I'd recommend staying on Fremont St in the Downtown area which isn't far away. There are some decent hotels there with good prices, Fitzgeralds, Four Queens etc. and you're still in the middle of the action. Just off Fremont St is a bar called Hogs & Heifers that you might want to check out,

There's also the Harley Davidson Café on the Strip.

If it’s still open (I’m not sure it is) one of the best beer bars I found in Vegas was the Freakin Frog on Sth Maryland Parkway.

Have a great time.

city-data.com/forums has a great local base for Las Vegas. Try posting there and one of them may very well host a bbq.

Thanks a heap for your tips Clive. There is the stereotype experience of Vegas I'm sure but I'm convinced locals have to live and hangout somewhere. Cheers mate.
