Hi,

We are a family of 4 looking for a place near the river or with a view of the river so far I have found this hotel Pestana Porto but it is over 200$ Canadian.

I was going to stay in Porto and take an all day river cruise - until someone sent me the following link:

Next week I'll be in Porto, but I'm only staying there a couple of days to go to Guimaraes and Braga - I'm spending two days in Pinaho at the hotel shown on the link. Pinhao is in the heart of Portugal's wine country and you can take a shorter tour in a rabelo boat (vs. the all day in the boat thing).

I hope to have more to report after June, but so far the people from the hotel have been extremely accomodating and have taking care of many little details for me, like finding me a car/driver to take me to a couple of places.

I don't have any suggestion on specific hotels but an agency I find very good: http://www.booking.com/index.en.html
They are often the cheapest alternative and you don't have to pay online but to the hotel. No cancellation fee if cancelled more than one day before arrival is also good to know about.
I have used this agency many times.
