There are only two airlines that fly to Samui, Thai and Bangkok Air. The lack of a low cost carrier on the route is the reason why you won't find any real cheap fares. Bus and ferry from Bangkok to Samui takes about 12 hours, the train is slightly faster.

Firefly from Kuala Lumpur to Ko Samui and Air Asia from Bangkok to Surat Thani (on the mainland near Ko Samui) are a bit cheaper then Bangkok Air.

In March we flew from BKK-Samui for about $60 USD one way per person. We did this flight after missing our train due to incorrect information! The flight was wonderful, only 45 minutes with food on flight and were allowed to go into Bangkok Airways lounge in BKK for free food as well! The overland journey by train and ferry (that we missed) was about $27 USD each and would have been about 12-14 hours.

We loved Bangkok Airways so much that we then flew from Samui to Singapore for about $140 USD one way per person. By this time we were spoiled after travelling overland from Beijing to BKK so we said what the heck and took the 90 minute flight.

Both of these flights were in March 2009 and we booked directly online with Bangkok Airways. As the previous poster mentioned its pricey because they (along with Thai Air) have a monopoly on the little (and extremely charming) Samui airport.

I've got some great beach hut info for Samui if you two are interested, let me know as I still have yet to put it up as a tip.

As it is your honeymoon I would suggest a villa room at the Koh Samui Renaissance. The hotel is located between Lamai and Chaweng overlooking a small beach. For more details see my tip on my Samui pages.

Two other suggestions would be Poppies and the Centara Hotel (both on Chaweng).
