I agree with George. Limassol itself is not a terribly touristy place, most of the hotels lie outside it on the coast road.
If you would like a quick overview of Cypriot history you might like to try the "Time Elevator" a semi-automated audio visual experience which, whilst fun, is educational. I cannot find a direct Internet link for it but it is close to the Castle at Vasilissis Street, Limassol 3602, Email: time.elevator@nplanitis.com
Alternatively, if you like history, as I do, a short taxi ride (about eight or nine miles) to the west is Kolossi Castle, which is interesting as this is where Richard the Lionheart was married during a Crusade.
