hello vters' this will be my first time in saigon, vietnam with my two daughters. and wants to do budget in hotel accommodations, but near the shopping area. can someone give me tips where to stay? thanks....

You'd probably want to stay in Pham Ngu Lao, which is the backpacker area. An excellent budget hotel is Bich Duyen - if you can get a booking there. While some people feel the backpacker area is not "appropriate" for kids, we had absolutely no problems and the Bich Duyen is situated in a sheltered alley away from the main strip. Pretty close to Ben Thanh Market and other tourist attractions. The area shopping area is Cholon with their Binh Tay Market.
