Looking at Verona to Rosenheim. If I say leave at 9:00am on 04/07/09 it shows the train leaving at 8:59 with a star by it and when you go forward it shows only seats for 05/07/09 at the bottom where it says reservatioons. When you go to buy it is for 05/07/09. If you say you want to leave at 7:00am it says 04/07/09 with no star by it yet it is the same train #88. At first I thought you could not take this train until the fifth because it is full. I need to go to Rosenheim early on the 4th to catch connection. Dates not flex. What does that star really mean and will that train likely be full on 04/07/09? Am I missing something here? thnx

I am not sure what star you are referring to, but the Trenitalia site does pop up a star next to the start time when you enter one day and continue forward looking at solutions until you cross over into the next day. The solutions starting on a date later than when you indicated are flagged this way. Is it possible that it says "* solution applies to next day" down below?

But the 'sloution applies to next day' * is there because you are searching for 9am. There is no train betwen 9am and 12.59, so the next trains around 9am are given for the next day.

There is a train at 8.59 (and one at 6.59) If you enter 5am for your search time you will find it available for booking.

I am certain the train you want is not fully-booked now, and it is quite possible it will not be fully-booked at all.

yes, the star or "*" means... "next day"

if you tell him to search from 9.00 and on, it doesn't show the train leaving a mere minute before. That is why it shows on your day if you search solutions from 7.00

Train number is the same every day, of course, if it is a train run daily. both Number AND date identifies a train. I would be very surprised if it was already booked, even if it is on a saturday

Thank you everyone. That makes me feel better! I see how the 8:59 train wouldn't register for 9:00. Here when you do airlines it shows close ones both forward and back around the time so it never dawned on me that it wouldn't be that way with trains. Learn something everyday! Have a good one!
