Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Marseille Is buying a ticket necessary for passholders?
Posted: Wed May 13, 2009 09:45 PM UTC
Hello!

I have a 3 day france pass.
I plan to travel from Nice to Marseille & from Marseille to Lourdes in the last week of this month.

Is it necessary that I still book the tickets or make reservations?
Can I just show the pass and board the above two trains?

Thanks!

Seat reservation is essential for almost all long-distance trains in France even with a pass. Therefore I suggest you visit the railway station on arrival and make the arrangements.

However between Nice and Marseilles there several local (slower)TER trains for which reservation is not required. Check the Nice - Marseille timetables here

There is no donwloadable timetable for Marseille - Lourdes, so you will need to visit www.voyages-sncf.com to decide which train to catch and you will almost certainly have to change trains on Toulouse.

I hope that helps.
