Posted: Tue May 12, 2009 05:36 PM UTC
Hi there,

Whats the best way to get to above airport, train?

Since we are taking the Eurostar, Can we use our tickets to get there?

We have to be there at 8.30 a.m if we are there for 7.00 a.m is that enough what time do we have to leave the city?

thanks

Eurostar tickets to Brussels allow onward travel within Belgium within the same 24 hour period, so I think you will be ok (depending on what time you actually arrive in Brussels, of course).

http://www.charleroi-airport.com/doc.php?nd=1100&tid=100&site=1&lg=2

tells you about airport access.

http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/ will give you train times and details (and fares, just in case).

Do you mean check-in opens at 8.30 or closes? Either way, arriving an hour and half before departure is ok, though I prefer to allow 2 hours so ican chill a bit. Check-in closes 40 minutes before departure. Don't risk being late, because budget carriers are very strict about check-in times and you may miss your flight with no refund.

I don't know if Whizzair offers a choice of 'speedy boarding' or seat allocation, but if not (or if you have not booked these options) and you want to be sure of sitting together it is best to arrive early for check-in so that you are in the first boarding group.

You'll be a bit tight if last check-in is 8.30. Trains run from Midi to Charleroi Sud about every 30 minutes with a journey time of just under an hour. From Charleroi Sud there's an airport shuttle bus which takes another 20 minutes. Looking at timetables you'll need to catch the 7.07 train from Midi and then the 8.15 bus from Charleroi train station to arrive at the airport 8.35. Your Eurostar ticket is valid for the train journey but not the bus journey.

There is a bus shuttle service direct from Midi which takes about an hour but the timetable depends on what day you are travelling.

What do you mean by "we have to be there at 8.30 a.m." when you then ask "if we are there for 7.00 a.m. is that enough"? Is your flight at 8.30 or is this the time you have been told to be there for?
You can use your Eurostar tickets to travel to Charleroi-Sud railway station IF this is after no more than 24 hours in Brussels, if you will have spent any longer then you do not meet "ABS" conditions, which allow a stopover in Brussels of up to 24 hrs on the way to another destination in Belgium. In that case, you will have to buy another ticket either by train plus bus (combined ticket for €11 from anywhere in Belgium to Charleroi Airport, including both train and TEC bus A from station to airport) or for the shuttle bus from Rue de France by Brussels' Gare du Midi.
If you can't get there early enough for your flight, and/or if this means you can reduce your stopover in Brussels to 24 hrs, you could travel on to Charleroi the night before and stay the night at the Ibis next to Charleroi-Sud station. Then continue your journey to the airport the next day by bus from outside the station.
