Havana traveling to cuba solo

Hi,

I am thinking about heading to cuba later in may early june by myself. I have traveled quite a bit. Nicaragua, Argentina, Chile, Mexico..

I don't speak all that much spanish just enough to get me by.

Would this be safe?

Thanks for any experiences or feedback!

You'll be safe! Just take a phrasebook, try your best with the Spanish and people will generally be kind. You never know, you might learn some while you're out there!
Enjoy yourself!!

If you're hanging around Havana, it shouldn't be a problem. I speak absolutely no Spanish and was pleasantly surprised the number of Cubans who speak English. I had no difficulty at all.

Hi Jordan!
I don’t speak Spanish – only basic English but I didn’t have such problems. Vice versa, many Cubans (especial in Havana) speak English and want to earn money and they would offer you their services as guide, cigar seller, friend and so on ;).
Hurry on! After Fidel death Cuba will became usual Latin American country. :(
Have a good trip!

thanks!

I am from the states too, so i have that issue to deal with.

Is getting around and eating cheap there? I assume getting a room in somebody's casa there is cheap.

hey jordan,

i am from the states as well. i went to cuba this year through cancun and had a blast. havana is awesome. i speak very limited spanish and made it ok. it was easier in havana than in the smaller towns. it certainly would have helped if i spoke more spanish because i missed out on a lot of conversations. i spent 5 days in havana and then took a bus to the other side of the island for a week and then back to havana. hang out in central havana around obispo--the pedestrian only street. lots of fun bars and restaurants.

enjoy cuba and if i can help further let me know.

tom
