Can you let me know if I can get a Sherut from Jerusalem to Haifa in the late afternoon. Of perhaps you can direct me to a Sherut company - tried one through Google and phone number did not work. I need approx prices and how long it will take.

If I go by train and change in Tel Aviv, approximately how many hours will the journey take.

Don't know about direct sherut, but there is a sherut to Tel Aviv from Jerusalem and then a different sherut on to Haifa. For the first leg they run very often and no problem. you don't need to contact them in advance. Some leave from the middle of the city and some from the Central Bus Station area.

I believe, although can't tell you from personal experience, that the second leg would be the same.

If you don't use the sherut, I suggest taking the bus to Tel Aviv from the Jerusalem Central bus station to the Arlosoroff station in Tel Aviv and then a train onwards to Haifa.

I have to agree with the previous post. Traffic from Tel Aviv to Haifa in the late afternoon can be horrendous. Take the 480 bus from the Central Bus station to its last ( and usually only stop) The ride takes 50 minutes. --Even in traffic it takes 50 minutes and I don't know how they do it, but they do..

Then take the train. The train is quick, efficient, comfortable and avoids traffic. Be aware there is more than one train station in Haifa so you would have to know where to get off.

Just checked the Egged site. More like 2 1/2 hours, but run often. Cost is NIS 42 o/w. Leaves from the Jerusalem Central bus station and arrives at the Central Bus station on the Carmel in Haifa. First one leaves at 0605 (am) and last one at 2040 (8.40 pm).

This post was removed from a different travel site as being inappropriate. One of the things included in that site was that the individual was from Nigeria and it was felt by posters ( and apparently the owners of the site) that this was yet another Nigerian scam--soon leading for requests for money. I took the bus from central station as well....was quite a long ride, maybe two hours. Then once you are in station, you need to take another bus because station is not really in a walkable area. If you can stay the nite in Haifa, i would recommend it. I left early from Jerusalem and went to Haifa and then came back that night and was exhaused and felt like i had to cut my trip to Haifa short because i didnt want to still be there when it got dark ( because i couldnt easily find my way around if it were dark). So if you can, i would try to stay the night in Haifa if you go.
