Helsinki Ferryboat connections to Estonia in the east part of Finland?
Posted: Mon May 11, 2009 03:02 PM UTC
Hi.

This summer i am coming in Finland, flying round trip from Helsinki, i have 11 days

I am going to vist south Finland and north-center Estonia.

Now it's time to design an itinerary: we are only 2 so we aren't going to rent a car, so we'll move with bus or train.
Is possible to reach to east part of Estonia by ferryboat from Finland or i have to do the route Helsinki-Tallin 2 times ?

Hello,
You have to do the route Helsinki-Tallinn two times. The ferries go only to Helsinki from Tallinn.
Good news is it takes only 1,5 hours when the weather is good.
The distance between Helsinki and Tallinn is somehting like 80 kms if I remember right.
regards from the south of Finland,
Soili

Hello,
Your itinerary looks ok to me. One small point: Tallinn has a lot to see, Tarto and Pärnu not so much to my opinion.
Yet I'm an old woman talking - Tarto is a university town so a young an will have a good time there. As in Pärnu which is also a spa area- has been that for ever. (The microclimate is good there, if you like jogging etc it could be nice to do so in the area with fresh air).

Where to stay in Helsinki? The youth hostel at the Stadion. Stadionin retkeilymaja. It's a clean place and the staff there is friendly. No wild time there, though, but you can have a good rest there.
It's not awfully far away from Helsinki centre either, by tram easily accessible.

Just take it easy, relax and have fun!
all the best on a sunny day from south of Helsinki

Buongiorno! You could also get out of Tartu, while there. I recommend small town Otepää with beautiful nature and Lake Pühajärve nearby, here's the bus schedule. http://www.bussireisid.ee/index.html?timm=1242196152

I recomend to visit North-East of Estonia - it is one of the most interesting region in Estonia - Toila searesort, wonderful Ontika limestone shore with Valaste waterfall, Narva-Joesuu sea resort, Castle in Narva.
It is easy to get there by bus.

Skip Parnu.

@ Soili
Thanks for your help. I am not going to spend a lot of time in Tallinn beacuse i have already been last year.. so 2 days are enough.
I have no time for a large tour of both countries.. so i have to choose.. but in the capitals is possible to come back for a weekend with a low cost flight.. but the rest of the country is possible to visit only during summer holidays.
I can't skip Parnu.. i love to have a swim in baltic sea..

@ thirstytraveller
thanks thirstytraveller
I'll add a visit in Otepää to my tour.
