Perth traveling 2 days with 5 year old child
Posted: Mon May 11, 2009 05:18 AM UTC
Hi....
Can anyone advise me where to go as we are traveling to Perth with our 5 year old son.
We are planning to stay for only 2 days... As we are traveling to other cities in Australia.
And where is the best location to stay in town.

Thanks.

Hi Sasha and welcome to vt. I don't suppose you will have a car? Caversham Wildlife Park in the Swan Valley is a great place to visit. If you do not have a car, then the Perth Zoo is nice and easy to get to. Just cross the Swan River on the ferry from Barrack Street jetty which is where the Bell Tower is on the water front. Then walk a short distance up the hill and turn left to the Zoo. Just ask anyone and they will point you in the right direction. A tram trip from Barrack Street Jetty up to Kings Park is also a nice thing to do. Your son will love the fountains up there :o) You can catch a train up to Hillarys Boat Harbour which has an underwater world called Aqua. Hillarys Boat Harbour also has games for the kids like mini put put. To get there, buy an all day transport ticket at Perth Train station after 9am and catch the Whitfords or Clarkson Train and get off at Warwick and a bus from there will take you.
If you are here on the weekend then a return trip on Captain Cook cruises from Barrack Street Jetty to Fremantle is nice. Fremantle has nice markets that are opened on the weekend. www.captaincookcruises.com.au
My relatives stayed here when they came to visit -
http://www.mounts-bay.com.au/ It's appartment like accommodation and in a lovely area of town and a short shady walk to the jetty or you can catch any bus going by into town for free.
Hope this helps,
Cheers, Ann.

As usual aussi rose is right on track. We loved the bells and were there when the bell ringers were doing they "stuff". If that still happens your 5 year old might find it fascinating.
We went to the mint and saw them pouring gold. Worth a visit.

Then the park at the top of the hill which looks over the beautiful Swan river and city. There is a whispering wall where you talk at one end and hear it on the other.

Good on the city fathers who kept some of this area in its natural state.

Loved Perth Marg

Thanks so much for your insightful guide.
I'm also wondering is there a good place to see koalas in the area?
I've been to Perth, a long long time ago :), and I went to a farm where I could hold koalas, and feed sheeps and other animals. I couldn't recall whether it was around Perth or other cities. I would love to take my son there, I bet he'd love to see these amazing creatures....
We are planning to go around Australia on this trip.. Gold coast, Sydney and Melbourne beside Perth.
Thanks again.....

Well there'll be plenty of places to get up close & personal with Koalas :o)

Perth - Caversham Wildlife Park is great for Koala viewing & interacting personally with the kangaroos and baby sheep/animals etc. But you'll need a car to get there. - http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/21678/1c9462/

Also there's Yanchep National Park and again you'll need a car to get there - http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/21678/1c7ee8/

Sydney has Taronga Zoo and Featherdale - http://www.featherdale.com.au/index.htm

Brisbane has Loan Pine Sanctuary - http://www.koala.net/index.htm

Gold Coast has a Currumbin Bird Sanctuary - http://www.currumbin-sanctuary.org.au/

Just a few sites to help ;o)

Cheers, Ann.
