Yes, just take the airport bus into Carcassonne (very quick and timed to meet incoming flights), get off at the station and take the next train to Toulouse. Trains are frequent.
You do not need to buy your ticket online in advance. Just get it at the station.
You can find train times in English easily on:
http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml
or in French:

It is only 95 kilometres from Carcassonne to Toulouse. I would surely not take an airplane, as you would just waste your time getting to the airport, be there well before the flight, then get to the city from the airport in Toulouse...
It takes just one hour by TGV, and about 1:15 h by regional trains.
There are also bus connections, but I do not know the fastest ones. I have only found trips that take 2.5 hours. I cannot imagine this is all they have.
If you have a lot of time you can travel by boat on the Canal du Midi ;-)))

Re: Getting to Toulouse Posted: Tue May 12, 2009 09:30 PM UTC
I must point out that in provincial France the idea of 'frequent trains' means perhaps one train every hour, whereas in much of Northern Europe 'frequent' means a train every 15 to 20 minutes!
You do not, in fact you cannot, book a ticket for the majority of trains. As has been said they are local TER trains. The timetable is very complicated but on most days the last TER train from Carcassonne to Toulouse is at 1833. Most of the later trains on most of the days are TGV or TEOZ (ie reservation required) but you won't have any trouble getting a ticket even at the last moment for those.
Trains on this line are very few on Sundays.

In the UK 'frequent' would mean hourly, so that is why I used the word. :-)

I can find connections after 2100 to Toulouse-Matabiau (the main station in Toulouse) on
http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml
Perhaps you have been looking for connections to another Toulouse station?
There are trains at 21:55, 22:36 and 23:40.

Re: Getting to Toulouse Posted: Mon May 18, 2009 04:59 AM UTC
I would try to contact the tourist office in Toulouse. Unfortunately most tourist websites in France have no transportation info for connections outside the city's/town's boundary. They seem to think that everybody travels by car or at least by train. Some list bus companies - but if you check them out you can spend hours without finding what you need. So do not even try this.
Here is the contact info for Toulouse:
