Two weeks in Tel Aviv Posted: Sun May 10, 2009 06:08 PM UTC
My wife and I will be staying in Tel Aviv for two weeks during the Maccabiah Games in July...our daughter will play field hockey. We will watch the competition in the morning. We will have afternoons and evenings free. Also, we will have a rental car. Do you have suggestions for places to visit on short day trips?

Jaffa/yafo is a very obvious half day trip from tel aviv and this can be done by foot from tel aviv if you have good walking shoes.
israel is a small country though and most places can be done in a day.
i would highly recommend masada myself.
it's right next to the dead sea and is a fantastic combination of nature and culture.

As the previous poster indicated Israel is a small country. From Tel Aviv there are many many places you can go for the afternoon or evening. You can go to Jerusalem, to Netanya, to Haifa, to Herziliyah, to Ashdod, Ranana,Ceseari, Rechovot and more. You can visit Mini-Israel and Latrun. You can go to the Ein Gev Artists Village. About the only place you can not go is down South to Bersheva or up North to the Galilee or the Golan. What are you interested in?
Also, congrats on your daughter being part of the Maccabiah Games. You must be so proud of her.

The possibilities are endless. The members of VT have spent long hours writing tips that can help you - I would advise browsing through the Israel pages. Two weeks & a car at your disposal! Sounds great.

Shalom, Shalom.
Depending on your driving skills, most all of Israel is within reach of an afternoon trip, returing at night.
The following link gives you an idea of distances.
http://www.israel-travel-tips.com/en/132/Israel%20Travel/Driving%20Distances
To Beersheva is about an hour drive for instance and the Dead Sea and Masada are about 45 minutes further.
Even Katzrin in the Golan Heights is only 215 kilometers from Tel-Aviv.
But you can use the weekend to take a longer trip, staying overnight on Friday....
Enjoy your stay,
Martin

In the thread above this one I posted why I feel this post is a lead on. Now, that I see it has been added to multiple threads my confidence in what i wrote on that thread is increased. I have not reported it since that portion of Virtual Tourist is down for upgrading!

oh, it's almost july!!! although i do hope that you have your itinerary down by now, i still hope that this reply still isn't too late. there are soooo many things that you can do in tel aviv!!! off the top of my head, there are the eye candies perfect for sight seeing: the etzel museum, bauhaus architecture, bialik house. and then there are the parks that offer great outdoor experiences like hayarkon park. if you're on a budget, don't worry. there are stuff that you can do in tel aviv for free - dip and swim in the beach, the carmel market, free color coded walking tours and more!!! speaking of budget, there are plenty of hotels that you can bunk into during your stay that offer great rates! you can choose among the hotels here: http://www.israel-a-la-carte.com
trust me!!! tel aviv is sooo beautiful. and if you get tired of it (as if you would :P) its neighboring cities can definitely entertain you!
