Hotel near Royal College of Surgeons

Hi,
I'm visiting Colombo for MRCS Part3 exam on 7'th June.Will any body suggest me a good budget hotel nearby.I'm also planning to visit candy & Sigiriya Any tour operater near by?.Thanks

Hi there,

An address of the College would help a lot to facilitate us making the advice. Colombo is a big city and even me, living there part of the year, has not seen all colleges and avenues...

Yes, details about the location is essential.

Royal College of Surgeons returns no results from google and the Colombo telephone directory.

Okay, that's Cinnamon Gardens - about halfway between BMICH and Union Place/Town Hall. Not that many formal ones nearby but for sure not-too-well-listed guesthouses. Janaki hotel (www.hoteljanakicolombo.com) would be about 15 mins walk and midrange prices. Skyways Inn (www.ceyvista.com) is same distance but more in the suburbian direction. But the sites given earlier in the thread might give cheaper options...

I suggest Trans Asia Hotel, its very close to the exam centre, at de same time u can easily reach by taxi or tuktuk.
Aitken Spence or Brown Tour I can recomond.

Trans Asia hotel will suspend operations for a period of three and half months commencing from 15th May 2009 in order to carry out a refurbishment and repair. Upon completion, the hotel would be re-branded and launched as Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo.

I'd generally NOT recommend TransAsia or for that matter any other of the grand 'business hotels' in Fort. It's way above the 'budget hotel' category asked for, prices start at 70-80 USD BB basis. And not close to the exam centre, about 4 km at least which is over an hour's walk in the Colombo situation. The names I gave are more or less walking distance.
If they're above budget then (knowing that it's not easy to find the affordable guesthouses/B&B's in the vicinity of the place) a hotel on tuktuk/bus distance indeed is needed, but again in the budget category. In an earlier thread Ranmuthu Hotel at Galle Road Kollupitiya scored not that badly.
