Welcome to Seoul.
It's going to be humid and hot. In general, we have so much rain in August, so I hope that it's not going to be raining so much around the time you are visiting in July. It's hot and humid, but the air conditioning system is everywhere, thus you might not need to worry about so much.
I think if you get the 'T-Money' card, then it might be the best way to use the transportation. First of all, it's cheaper than a cash and you can transfer bus to subway, vice versa, bus to bus within 5 times. But transferring time is in 30 minutes( after 9pm it's one hour). You can get a T-money card in the subway station(it's a credit card size), and the card costs 2500won. Then you should charge the card with the certain amount of money like 10000won. If you get the card in the store, it's small, but it's costs about 5000won or more.
Sightseeing areas.
Kwanghwamoon, Jongro - these are all in walking distance. It has stream, palaces and tranditional things with lots of modern shops and restaurants. Buisness town, too.
Gangnam, Apgujeong, Coex, Jamsil - close, but a bit far to walk around. city life and night life. restaurants and shops. amusement park, ice rink.
Itaewon, Yongsan - only place you can see more foreigners than koreans in itaewon. international food. Yongsan has a big electronic market, but you need to be careful not to be overcharged.
I think these are the most tourist places.
Enjoy your time in Seoul!
