Re: Want to do a day trip to Tangier Posted: Thu May 7, 2009 03:47 PM UTC
Hi yes I think its worth it too - easy enough to do your own touring around - stay at somewhere interesting such as the Hotel Continental which is where Paul Bowles stayed and other personalities - or even better after seeing a bit of Tangier jump on a bus or in a grande taxi and head for Asilah and stay the night there.
Tangier is worth a visit for the Grande Souk, the Church of England church, the fortress and the museum that is up in it, the medina up inside the fortress area, if you had a car or taxi then the cape is worth a look and the Grottoes of Hercules, otherwise thats enough and then head for Asilah!
Very nice seaside town with one of the most intact fortress walled towns in morocco - very pretty and quiet and a nice place to stroll around, the beach and medina and sit for seafood meals.
you could do a circuit trip with there should be 1030 am bus to tetouan from Asilah and visit there too and back to Tangier or on to Chefchouen and stay a night in Chefchouen. you could do all this with a night in Asilah and then a night in chefchouen and back to Tangier and catch late evening fast ferry back to Tarifa. only take 40 minutes on those ferries rather than from Algeciras which take one and a half hours being the quickest and 2 and a half hours the slow ferries.
the ferry to Tarifa always has a bus waiting for transfer to Algeciras which takes about 20-30 mins. Tarifa too is a nice town to visit with castle/fortress and interesting old buildings. Buying a return ticket gets 10% off the ticket price for the ferry. Make sure you get your passport stamped while you are on the ferry - if you get off without doing it they will make you go back into the ferry to find the policeman who was stamping and signing the entry stamps.
and when you depart from Tangier yuo have to fill in departure card and hand that in with the police check there too.
