Las Vegas Las Vegas to Yosemite National Park

I’m planning to drive from Las Vegas to Yosemite Park. I found out that the weather in May is no so good to take the Tioga Road and I should to take the “long way” (crossing Fresno).
Any stops recommendations? What about death Valley?

BTW… Any advice to stay in Yosemite Park?

Cheers…

Tioga Pass usually opens in late May. If it's open, drive through it. It's the prettiest way to get to the valley. You can check conditions here - http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/conditions.htm

Don't miss Death Valley - it's spectacular. I like to stay at Stovepipe Wells. There's a great hike nearby up Mosaic Canyon.

I'm guessing you'll be lucky to find any place to stay in Yosemite. At least not in the valley. It books up pretty early. If you can't get anything in the park, try Mariposa.

I agree with the previous poster. Wait with your decision until the day you want to travel. We once wanted to go to Yosemite in early autumn, and right on the day it started to snow like crazy, so we could not get there. We also got snow in the higher regions of the Death Valley, that was very exciting.

DEFINITELY visit Death Valley. If you can, spend the night at either Stovepipe Wells or Furnace Creek, both of which have motels in the National Park. The Must sees are the view from Dante's Peak, Artists' Palette, and Badwater, which is the lowest point in North America.

If the Tioga Pass into Yosemite is open, then go a few miles out of your way and visit Mono Lake and Bodie. Bodie is the largest ghost town in the Western US and is very interesting to walk through.

Tioga Pass officially opened yesterday - note there are no services available along the road at this time so fill up with gas at Crane Flat (west side of park) or Lee Vining on the east side
