Dubrovnik Bus Fare and Spot for Lunch
Posted: Wed May 6, 2009 02:58 PM UTC
We are some of those cruisers who ask "What to do in 5 hours in Dubrovnik?" This site has many suggestions and answers to that question, but I do have 2 others:
1. Will we be able to pay for the tram or bus in euros? If not, is there an ATM where we can get the local currency?

2. Would someone be kind enough to recommend a non-touristy cafe for us?

Thanks so much, Marilyn

Don't hold your hopes up for a cafe or restaurant in Dubrovnik that's non-touristy! Assuming you're going to spend your time there in the old city, and with only 5 hours, you won't have time to do much else - if food is being served, there'll be tourists there somewhere. I'd walk pretty well right down Placa and then take one of the little streets that go up the hill to the next street over where there are several small restaurants but, given how busy it can be in the centre - it may be more of a case of where you can find a seat than anything else.

You won't be able to pay a bus fare in euros, you'll need kunar, but you should be able to change money on the cruise ship surely. Otherwise, you'll find there are banks and ATMs close to where you dock.

i was told by a slovenian friend that Dubrovnik is one of the few places in the world that won't allow McDonalds to open a cafe - so you won't see any golden arches

Sarajevo is one of only two capital cities in the the world with no McDonald's...Nice bit of useless trivia for ye :)
But with Bosnia & Herzegovina's delicious local cuisine it's no surprise.
BTW Pyongyang is the other!!!!

Speaking of Bosnia cuisine, there's a lovely restaurant in Dubrovnik which serves great cevapcici, burek and Bosnian coffee. It's called the Taj Mahal (and no it actually isn't an Indian) and it's just off Placa on Svetog Dominika. Good value too (considering where you are!!!!)
All the best
Brian
