Lago di Garda Transport options

Hi

We are landing in Milan in mid July and travelling up to Riva Del Garda.
Can some one give me a recommendation on best transport options from Milan to Riva .
We think train to Desenzano and bus to Riva .What is bus frequency to Riva ?
or are there buses direct ex Milan airport(malapensa )or Mini Van ?

We also want to look at going up to Tirano and catching the Berlina Express. How far away is Triano and what is best way to get there?

Thanks

Please, look at transportation tip in my Torri del Benaco page. There are the links to both the Desenzano - Riva (west shore) and Peschiera del Garda - Riva (east shore) bus lines (you find still the winter timetable, but the summer one should appear soon).
See what suits you better. The difference of the starting point is one train stop and a few minutes.
From Malpensa, you betetr take one of the very frequent shuttle buses to Milano Centrale Train station (train timetables up to 60 days on www.trenitalia.com).

Sorry, no ideaabout your Tirano trip, but ask locally and you'll have the answers.

Ciao
Francesco

I was just looking up the same question for someone going to Gardone del Garda (partway up the lake on the west side), and noticed that the buses tend to leave Desenzano del Garda about 30 minutes after each connection from Milan stops there.

Yep, look at http://www.apt.vr.it/pdf/80.pdf - it's the same bus, so look at www.trenitalia.com for rail solutions to Desenzano del Garda and compare with the bus schedule. Note that the trip is almost 2 hours, and that not all buses on this line go all the way to Riva.

Now, I will note that there appears to be a ferry that runs all the way from Desenzano del Garda to Riva del Garda (the entire length of the lake), but I know nothing about it; perhaps someone will join in.

The Malpensa website does not report any direct buses to the immediate area, and this doesn't surprise me. You can take a bus to Brescia or Verona, but then you're no better off than if you had taken the train. (unfortunately, the bus to Verona goes past Desenzano del Garda, but doesn't offer a chance to stop there)

Hey, Francesco, what do you know about a ferry from Desenzano to Riva?

Ciao, Bill!

I know this: http://www.navigazionelaghi.it/eng/gar/ora_primaverile_2009/nlg_ora_m1a_p.html

few connections on spring timetables, probably more during summer.
A lovely and wonderful way to arrive at Riva, but after a flight, a shuttle bus, a train, (probably a taxi to carry luggages to the docks, while bus leave from the station), i would not appreciate it too much. But if times matches, why not?

Ciao
