Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Mostar how to get from Dubrovnik to Mostar ?
Posted: Tue May 5, 2009 10:46 AM UTC
Hello,

I want to go to the area of Mostar (precisely : Medjugorje) on july 31st.
Plane landing in Dubrovnik at 12:20.
Can you tell me how I get from Dubrovnik to Mostar by train ?
How much time does it take ? Do I have to change train somewhere ?
Are there other means than trains ?

Thank you for your help !

I think your only realistic option is car hire.

There are no trains from Dubrovnik to Mostar or Medjugorje(or anywhere else for that matter). The most direct way to make the trip is by bus. You will need to go in to Dubrovnik (35 km from the airport) and take a bus from the main bus station. There is one bus a day directly to Medjugorje, leaving at 1715, taking about 3 hours.

If you decide to go this way, I would strongly advise you to go straight to the bus station from the airport and buy your ticket before doing anything else.

Alternatively, there are buses to Mostar leaving at 0800, 1515 and 1715 each day - journey time about 6 hours - and then several buses during the day from Mostar to Medjugorje

Check here

If you really want to catch a train, you will have to first take a bus from Dubrovnik to Ploce at 1300 to arrive in time to catch the 1700 train to Mostar (arrives Mostar at 1840). This would make spending a night in Dubrovnik a necessity.

Finally, you could catch a bus to Metkovic (several a day - http://www.libertasdubrovnik.hr/voznired.swf) and then take a local bus to Medjugorje - can't help you with those time, sorry.

I caught a bus from Dubrovnik to Sarajevo that stopped in Mostar.
It left at 8am and the next one was about 11am.

Hi ya,
As already mentioned there are no trains operatoing to and from Dubrovnik so a bus is really your only option if you don't want to hire a car.

Did the journey between Dubrovnik and Mostar very recently and it took around 3 hours. Very easy to get a bus from Dubrovnik to Mostar but you will have to get to the bus station from the Airport first which is about half an hour from the city itself. You can get a bus from directly outside the arrivals hall (Atlas Bus Company for 35 Kuna) The Bus Station in Dubrovnik is located a long way from the Old Town but stay on the bus and it will drop you there.

There are at least three, regular daily buses from the main bus station in Dubrovnik to Mostar at the following times.
8.00
15.15
17.15
These buses continue on to Sarajevo
From what I gather there is also an additional bus on Sundays at 13.00

From what I remember a return ticket costs around €18 with a one way costing around €10

The buses are very comfortable, usually operated by Eurolines/Autotrans. After the 'main' border crossing into BiH there is a short break at a roadside cafe.

BTW - Very easy to get a bus from Mostar to Medjugorje but I think the Dubrovnik - Mostar bus stops in a town which is even closer to Medjugorje than Mostar. (Don't have any more details on this but someone else might be able to help you here if you post this question on the Medjugorje forum.

All the best and safe travels.
Brian
