Prague Prague to Vienna by train?
Posted: Tue May 5, 2009 08:04 AM UTC
Hi,
Can anyone tell me how long it will take to get from Prague to Vienna? Will be traveling in early June. We are advised to buy tickets at the station. Is high speed available for that route?
Thanks!

Hi,
it takes about 4-5 hours (direct or with 1 change).
Cost from 29 euro (special price) to 60 euro (normal price).
If you want to save some money you can buy special price tickets from www.oebb.at

Good luck !

Do not think it is possible to buy Prague - Vienna ticket from OBB site.

Czech railway offers advance on-line price 19 EUR one way (much cheaper than regular price 37,8 EUR at the station). E-shop requires registration:
https://eshop.cd.cz/international/search_cd-obb.aspx
However tickets are bound to certain train and passenger name.

There are no high speed connections, however SC trains (called "Pendolino") offer slightly shorter trip and higher comfort.

I'll use this thread to ask a related question. I might be going the opposite way on this route with my girlfriend - we want to start in Vienna and get to Prague. Is it possible to find a 19 or 29 euro ticket going the opposite direction? If so, where are those sold?

Re: Vienna - Prague
Check www.oebb.at for the particular dates.

Czech Rail has the rule that you can buy special price ticket only for the trips starting in Czech Republic (i.e Prague-Vienna or Prague-Vienna-Prague). So it is not allowed to use 19 EUR tickets for Vienna - Prague trip.

Even that e-shop will issue the ticket, you can be denied boarding or asked to pay the difference.

Hi,
it's possible via oebb.at
For example there are possible variants for 05/06/09

I traveled this route in reverse in July 2006 and didn't buy a ticket in advance. You can simply go the train station and buy your ticket there if you prefer. Accomodations were no problem.
