Hi,
I will be travelling to Shanghai next week. Is it safe to go there due to the current swine flu? Please advise. Thanks.

As safe as anywhere else, imo.

and

have up-to-date information.

No need to panic, despite the media hype. Just make sure you wash your hands frequently. Masks are of dubious efficacy.

Exactly so Leics. As safe as anywhere. It's a pile of phooey. 17 deaths worldwide - what sort of pandemic is that? More died on the roads in China yesterday, but that doesn't rate a mention.

No swine flu in China, but I see Spain leads Europe.

Masks - useless after the first 2 minutes. Better idea to stop people spitting everywhere, and coughing without covering their mouths.

From reading the news, as long as you don't have a Mexican passport it should be OK. I *don't* know to what extent you'll be checked for just looking Mexican. See mid-article the news of the quarantine:

So far so good! There are just only one person comes from Mexico was verified infected with swine flu in Hongkong, China and there is no news about the new infected person in China. In the past one week was the May holiday in China, many Chinese still went around for tour in every part of China and it seems that nobody feel much worry about the swine flu. Therefore it's quite safe for your tour in Shanghai unless you are come from Mexico. Why not just relax and enjoy your journey in China.
