Copenhagen Things to see in Copenhagen in one day
Posted: Mon May 4, 2009 10:18 AM UTC
Hi All!

My parents are going to visit Stockholm from Amsterdam in mid May. They will be coming from Amsterdam by train and have a break journey in Copenhagen for 4-5 hours. They may extend their stay in Copenhagen for a day as well. Can anyone please suggest any good places to visit in Copenhagen during the day, any nice castles or museums or anything. Or any site-seeing nearby the city.

Any suggestions will be of big help to me for arranging their trip. They both are 60+ and neither drink nor smoke. So the bars will be out of contention.

Thanks!

i would recommend tivoli too for a 4-5 hour break.
it's right next to the train station and certainly not a place where people go to drink and smoke.
it's a favorite with children and the +60 crowd.

Thank you so much for the prompt replies. The Tivoli gardens will definitely be a wonderful place to spend a some hours. Are there any other beautiful monuments or places to visit in Copenhagen which may be typical Dannish?

Thanks again!

the "ny carlsberg glyptotek" is right behind tivoli and is one of the best art museums in denmark.

the national museum is about 10 minutes walk from the tivoli gardens, right across the main square in copenhagen.

They can take a walk along Stroget and visit the Round House. They can walk up its spiral ramps to the top.

A short walk to Nyhavn would be worth it as well. My VT ID photo is taken there. Great for a coffee and a bit of people watching which is a vital part of any visit to a new country. Copenhagen is very easy to walk around and is an absolute delight at every turn, they will love it.

Tivoli wouldn't be on my must see list! Too much of a Disneyland imho...

I'd put on my list :
- Rosenborg (park and castle)
- Nyhavn
- Kastellet

The Little Mermaid is more of a tourist trap than a must see (exactly the same as the Manneken *** in Brussels) but if they want to see that symbol, why not, it's not that far from the Kastellet anyway...

The Little Mermaid statue is in an far-off area in a park. It is actually 10 feet or so off the shore, which is fenced. The statue is literally life-sized, so it's hard to see unless you're right up close. You may notice some "scars;" the arms and head have been sawed off, by vandals, several times, I'm told!
