Brisbane Brisbane stop over
Posted: Sun May 3, 2009 08:23 PM UTC
Hello guys! I will be flying in to Brisbane May 25 at 6pm and leaving the following day at 5pm for Sydney. After reading some of your helpful postings, I have decided I would like to stay near the Southbank area. It seems like a beautiful place and close to a few things I would like to check out for such a short amount of time. What would be the best transportation to and from the airport? Any suggestions about brisbane would be appreciated too. Thanks in advance!

The best way to the city is the Airtrain, its costs $14aus and only 20mins to reach the city centre. The website is www.airtrain.com.au Its an excellent site and you can book online. You can go direct to Southbank if you wish, or stop at Roma Street. There is a Holiday Inn here at Roma Street, don't know what its like or price. The Roma street parklands are beautiful, they are a walk through Roma Street station. The City from Roma street is all around you, go for a walk. Check out the City Mall, the Old Windmill, the wharf areas with views to Story Bridge. Southbank is another lovely parkland area, has outdoor eating areas, manmade beach, nice gardens, excellent views of the city, free shows and markets with buskers on weekends. The Bouganvilleas are in bloom at the moment. I did all this yesterday, and it was a great day.

Yep, the train (about $14) is quite a bit cheaper than a cab ($35). Best option would be getting off at South Brisbane Rail via Roma. Turn right on Grey Street as you exit the station and you'll find the Rydges and Mantra Hotels on either side of the Glenelg Street intersection - perhaps a 5 minute walk max.

With little baggage, you have the option of getting off at Central Station and walking through the CBD and over the Victoria Bridge to South Bank Parklands.

Enjoy!
