If you have a motorcycle licence, hire a scooter and ride south. If you have no idea which direction is south, then engage a taxi or tuk tuk to take you there...But always get best price before you jump into taxi..
He will take you there, wait for you and bring you back to Patong...Not sure the cost...maybe 800-1000 baht...??..I've always ridden a scooter...(which costs 200 baht/day plus petrol)
If my memory serves me correctly,I think it is about 30-40 minutes south of Patong...
There is also a nice outdoor Thai restaurant on the cape which you can dine at whilst observing the sunset....and reasonably priced too...
Beware of people asking you to sign your name in tourist welcome books @ the cape...These are timeshare traps...!!..Unless you want timeshare..!!??...Have fun..!!

I have friends who stay at the Patong Bay Garden Resort and say it's very good.
You can take a private driver, taxi or tuk tuk to Laem Promthep (Promthep Cape). It is worth the journey. Go there at about 5pm for a snack and some cheap, easy shopping (much cheaper, less hassled than Patong), then explore the elephant altar, lighthouse and monument before watching a magnificent sunset. Try to pick a day with some cloud cover, but not too much. Clouds make for the best sunsets. I have some amazing sunset pictures from Laem Promthep. Make sure that you don't leave too early, as I've seen people do, because the sunset can get even better after it looks like it's finishing. Sunset is around 6.15pm.
If you'd like to make a little more of your time heading south, then do a day trip with a private driver, ensuring you visit the Rawai fishing village at about 3.30/4.00pm. It's an interesting spot, with pearls and seashells for sale. Otherwise, just head there on your way to the Cape.
A private driver I recommend is Mai. He can be booked on; hknuch@hotmail.com
