The most appropriate sites to look at an use for train and long-disantance travel in the UK ar:

www.nationalrail.co.uk which lists all train times, fares and details. You do not need to book tickets online in advance, although you can get cheaper fares for some trains on some routes by buying tickets up to 6pm the day before travel (from the station online).

Travellin by train takes 2+ hours and involves at least one change. Standard one-way fare is from 32.20GBP (varies according to departure time).

www.nationalexpress.com gives times and fares for buses from Salisbury to Gatwick. You should book these tickets online via the website. Coaches take at least 4 hours, and many take longer as they involve a stop in London. One-way fare from 25GBP.

I would advise you to pay the (potentially) quite small extra amount and make the journey by train. The time-saving will be worth it, imo.

there are far fewer coaches than there are trains.
