Train, bus, or suggestions on getting to Pinhao Posted: Wed April 29, 2009 07:31 PM UTC
I will arrive in Barcelona at 9:05 AM from the US.
The last train from Porto to Pinhao is at 17:15 from Campanha Station.
TAP has a flight leaving BCN at 10:35 direct which arrives Porto @ 11:25 and at 10:40 with layover in Lisbon arriving Porto @ 13:25.
*** I AM not sure that I will make either of those flights with a 9:05 arrival that could be late then go thru customs ***
I have been looking for bus connections from Porto to Pinhao but have not found a link. Thought I had one, but the one I saved is for Braga.
Any suggestions on how to get to Pinhao?

Oh, yes, TAP also has a 12:40 flight which I will make, but it arrives at 15:45 in Porto, only gives me about 1.5 hours to get to the train station from the airport for the 17:15 train. If the flight is late or I get stuck in traffic or buying the tickes, lost the last train.
I really need a bus backup. Any buses going Porto - Pinhao after 17:30 or so?

Also found Air Berlin BCN–OPO AB2479 Sun. 24.05. 12:35-15:30 with layover in Mallorca ...
... but still need a backup for the train in case the flight's late.

The railway is your best bet, but bus is also good. Hope you've tried the link to this bus line:
http://www.rede-expressos.pt/
I've used them before, and they're good and reliable. Check & see if they have one between Porto-Pinhao. If not, check alternatives: Porto-Regua, Porto-Pocinho, Porto-Guimaraes, Porto-Braga. Although, my sense is that Porto-Regua & Porto-Pocinho are closest to where you want to be: Pinhao. From Regua or Pocinho, just ask around for a local transportation service or tour.
Good Luck & Enjoy Beautiful Portugal!

If you're looking at the Porto-Pocinho bus route, hail a cab that will take you to Pinhao. There are also river cruises available from Porto or Regua en route to Pinhao between the spring and fall seasons.
Good Luck & Enjoy Portugal!

Re: Train, bus, or suggestions on getting to Pinhao Posted: Thu April 30, 2009 01:24 PM UTC
This one's got me stumped!
It is 85 miles from Porto to Pinhao, rather an expensive cab ride.
According to their website, Rede-Expressos does not serve Pinhao. I have looked at the website of another company, Rodonorte (www.rodonorte.pt) but so far as I can tell their last departure from Porto towards that area is at 435.
Rede-Expressos goes to Regua (still a long way short of Pinhao) at 230pm daily and at 515 on Fridays only. Not much help.
Transdev (www.transdev.pt)also serves the general area but does not appear to serve Pinhao.
None of these sites has anything as useful as a route map.
I fear than Plan C (an overnight stop in Porto) might have to be considered.

Thank you cubsur! I thought I was searching for the wrong stops.
And thanks risse for the post of the xpress earlier - I did check, but no Pinhao.
It occurred to me yesterday that if I place Pinhao at the end of the Porto stay rather than at the start, I can resolve the problem ... so I'll do my Porto stay first, then Pinaho and go to Lisbon from Pinhao.
Thanks!
