Flying Ryanair from OPO Posted: Wed April 29, 2009 08:33 AM UTC
Hello All,
Just wanted to know what to expect from Ryanair when flying out of OPO. Any/all advice would be helpful, especially if you can comment on the route going to Stansted. Thank you!

The route goes north, over the Atlantic, probably over part of France and then over the English Channel and up to Stansted. Ryanair is a no frills airline (often delayed departures in my experience). Eat before flying if you are very hungry!

Check all the extras, especially the baggage allowance and checking in online, etc.

I am yet to fly with Ryanair, but I often check their website for prices. I can only tell you that the price shown in their website does not include luggage. There's an extra fee for that.
About Oporto's airport, it's a relatively small airport, but with a lung runaway. I used it once last year. It is connected with the city center by Oporto's fast tram network, which there is called metro: Metro do Porto. Quite handy.

The price shown online does not include check-in, baggage, and a whole raft of other extras. However, it's all quite clear and you can make up your own mind as to whether it is cheaper in the long run than taking a regular carrier.

Hi! I travel quite often with Ryanair. They've often got great offers (from £1 upwards) - sign up for their e-mailing list, so you get early news on offers.
If you can travel with hand luggage only, you'll save some money, though this is strictly limited to one bag/case only - to include your duty free/lap top/ camera etc.
They offer priority boarding for a price - but in my experience, this is wasted money - if you have to catch a bus from the lounge to the plane (first onto the bus often means that you're last onto the plane)
I find that most passengers rush for the front steps to the plane. I saunter to the back.
The food on board can be a bit hit and miss on availability - bring your own, and drinks.
It's a basic, no frills trip - but if you come prepared for cramped seats-(try and grab an aisle seat, or even better a row of seats!) with something to read/do during the flight you'll be fine.
I'm afraid that I haven't had dealings with Stanstead yet, so can't comment on this airport.(I might be using this airport in July/August though, so looking forward to your comments)
Best Wishes,
Sue
