Munich Munich to Prague

We plan to visit Prague for 3 or 4 days out of Munich. What is the best mode of transportation? Time is an issue, so I'm thinking of driving unless the train is faster? Bus? Flying? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Fastest train connection (city centre to city centre) takes about 6 hours and cost around EUR 60/one-way.
Timetables: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

You can find flights here: http://www.harefares.com/

Bus takes about 5 hours and standard fares are EUR 36/one-way - EUR 61-65/return.

Prag Spezial - a return ticket from Munich to Prague is EUR 62,00

The train route to Prague is rather slow. The fastest trains need 6 hours.

Flying: both airports are not that close to the city centers. Calculate 1,5 hours for getting to/from both airports together.

Rental car:
- first you have to find a rental company which let's you drive into the Czech Republic with one of their cars.
- you need a vignette (toll sticker) to use the Czech autobahns. Not expensive as long you have it.
- Honestly I even don't drive into Munich if I can avoid it. And Prague with it's medieval city center is even more car unfriendly.

It is far no the best way to buy direct ticket (if you go one way), simply because you can make it much cheaper going while going by the same train.
Everything you need is to buy in Munich app. 250 CZK (less than 10 euro) + buy Bayern-Ticket (19 euro), after you cross the border just buy domestic Czech ticket (Domazlice-Praha) from conductor - 218 CZK + app.20-30 CZK fee for buying on board.
Total it makes 29-30 euro and not 60 ;)

Hey,

Flying is definitley fast, about an hour. My other problem would be getting back to airport for a 7:10am flight. How is the transportation to / from airport? Thanks.

> Flying is definitley fast, about an hour.
flight time 1 hour
last check-in 1 hour
transport to/from the airports 1,5 hours
waiting time and safety margins in between: 0,5 hours
Thus you will need city center to city center also 4 hours at minimum.

> My other problem would be getting back to airport for a 7:10am flight.
In Munich: no problem at all. In Prague: don't know.
