Dublin where is best place to see irish music and irish dancers in one place in dublin
Posted: Tue April 28, 2009 08:37 PM UTC
A group of us from the USA are going to Dublin this fall, and we only have one night which we can go to see Irish Dancing and hear Irish Music. I was looking at The Merry Ploughboy Pub in Rathfarnham as a possibility. But then I also saw something about an Irish House Party in Landsdowne Inn in Ballsbridge. Does anyone have any comments or recommendations?

The Arlington Hotel has Irish dancing and music every night of the week in its large bar. Location is central, by the O'Connell Bridge. General entrance is free or you can book a package that includes dinner and reserved seating.

For Irish music and dancing in the city centre check out O'Sheas at www.osheashotel.com and the Cobblestone pub in Smithfield at www.cobblestonedublin.com

The Merry Ploughboy pub has a nightly performance of irish music, dance and song and is one of the best in the country - they really get the audience going any time I've been out to the pub. Many city centre pubs do music as well but the quality can vary a lot and it's usually pretty crowded so it can be hard to hear the music or song properly. I've heard of the House Party - I think it's mainly a tourist event. I suppose it's down to your budget - there's an entrance fee for the Ploughboys pub show while city centre pubs are often free but fleece you on the price of drink. You get what you pay for in the end. Hope this helps.
