It's over two miles from Quinta da Balaia to the old town centre along a busy main road.

There is a local bus service (GIRO LINHA VERMELHA 2) every half hour that will take you most of the way to the old town but still leaves a 10 minute walk at the other end.

For bus details please see this page on my personal website

www.algarvebus.info/albufeira.htm#giro

That's an overview page with links to maps and timetables.

The stop at Modelo shopping centre is nearest to the old town.

Or you can walk the 600 yards or so to the 'Globes' roundabout and take the other bus (LINHA VERDE)also every half hour) to Pau da Bandeira which is directly above the old town, which you get to down (and back up) the new escaltors.

One way fare is €1.10 either way.

A taxi will cost you about 5 Euros; call 289 583 230. There are two taxi ranks down in the old town for the journey back.

Hope that helps - I live in Albufeira so let me know if there's anything else you need to know.
