London Local Taxi at Stansted Airport
Posted: Mon April 27, 2009 04:34 AM UTC
Dear all :-),

I'll be reaching Stansted Airport on the 18th May 2009 ( Thursday) via National Express from Luton Airport and will need a transfer to Days Inn, Stansted.

I was wondering if there is a local taxi available rather than take the expensive airport taxi. How much would the fare be for 5 people in an MPV (or maybe 2 taxis)?

Thank you for your responses :-)

In the UK pre-booked mini-cabs are always a bit cheaper than taxis which you take from a rank without booking.

I suspect that any local taxi firm you contact will charge much the same as the airport taxis, if not more (some may be from the same firms anyway). UK taxi and mini-cab local rates are set by local councils, not individual firms. All firms have to be licensed and regulated.

Stansted is not really a place .....it is really just an airport, near the village of Stansted Mountfichet (where many airport taxi firms are based).

Stansted Mountfichet taxi firms here:

The nearest town is Bishops Stortford:

http://www.richards-taxi.com/ has larger vehicles, but is based in BS.

Days Inn is not in Bishops Stortford itself, by the way, although its address suggests it is. It is in the motorway services area between the airport and BS. A taxi will take 10 minutes or less.

It might be worth emailing firms which offer larger vehicles for a quote, because obviously one taxi will be cheaper than two.

judging on my short trip to the Holiday Inn Express that cost GBP 7, I would estimate you pay 10-12 quid per taxi. Don't know if they charge more for a people mover. The minivan that was driving me would certainly have taken 5 passengers, unless maybe, each one would have had a lot of luggage.
