Carcassonne hotel for 3 ppl?
Posted: Mon April 27, 2009 12:05 AM UTC
My dad, my wife and I need a room for a couple nights. It would be nice to get a place within the city walls. What do you guys recommend for early July? Hoping to not spend more then 30Eu pp/nt. I'm checking out VT for hotels and things to do and see off the beaten path but if something comes to mind please let me know.

Thanks!

If you try www.venere.com or www.bookings.com you will see that there are a number of hotel options in Carcassonne at the time you are wanting. However, I think the problem for you is going to be the price. I'm assuming from your question that you want one room for all three of you. Maybe an apartment would be better for you although, I think you would need to be staying for more than a couple of nights to get one.

This is a web link to the Best Western Le Donjon Les Remparts inside the medieval castle of Carcassonne. We haven't stayed there but we ate at their restaurant once and it was quite good. The place was clean; the staff was very nice and the location can't be beat. Starting rates advertised were 90 euros . . . your budget, but probably not for 3 people. Remember that the rates are per room, not per person there so don't panic when you check the site.

Best Western in France is not like the USA where they are generic motels near highways or city centers. In France the Best Westerns are often in historic buildings and in or near amazing places (like Carcassonne).

This hotel has parking outside the gates but the hotel has a shuttle to bring you and your luggage in and return you to your car. We've often thought it would be fun to stay inside the city and see it when all the tourists have gone home for the night.

Have fun.

Thanks for the links. I'll take a look at those websites. I had a look at Best Western but the cheapest room is 160Eu per night and they don't let a 3rd person stay in the room either.

You will have great difficulty finding a hotel for that price in La Cite (or La Bastide, the lower part of the town...or any other popular place in Europe, to be honest) at any time of year, and especially in high season.

Carcassonne is not a huge place anyway, and has a limited range of accommodation.

Venere is a good site to look (the best, imo) but you can also check what accommodation is available locally on the official tourist info site, which lists b&bs etc as well as hotels:

http://www.carcassonne.org/carcassonne_EN.nsf/vueTitre/docVisiterAccueil1?opendocument&EN&Visiter&%20&0&Informations%20pratiques

Sorry about the long link. If it doesn't work go to

http://www.carcassonne.org/Carcassonne_EN.nsf/vueTitre/docpgeIntroVisiter

and look under 'Practical Information'.

You might try the Logis de France. It is a chain of locally owned hotels all over France. They are always clean and usually have a very nice restaurant. Many are in historic buildings and they are very "French" in feel. We nearly always use them out in the countryside. http://www.logis-de-france.fr/uk/index.htm

There is one in Carcassonne at http://www.logis-de-france.fr/uk/recherch/index-fast.php?id=12&lang=EN&action=fastadvsearch&logis=Carcassonne

You could search nearby too.

Good luck.
