San Diego San Diego - 2 adults 1 9 year old - Where to stay
Posted: Sat April 25, 2009 11:53 PM UTC
Hi...I am a little overhelmed with all the hotel options available in San Diego.

We will have a car and we are planning to go to The Zoo, Sea World, and Legoland.

We will be two adults and 1 child age 9...traveling June 18th thru 23rd.

Any recommendations would be great.

THe preferred rate would be 150.00 to 175..of course a beach would be nice..but I am not finding that...

I have checked out a few of your travel pages..but there are still soo many choices.

I should have put this information and didn't know how to edit:

The price is the priority and having a pool!

You can get a lot of bang for the buck and in your price range at the Kona Kai Resort & Spa on Shelter Island, San Diego. Pool with view of Marina. The front has a grass walkway on the San Diego Bay to watch boats, large and small go sailing by as well as restaurants. Close to Sea World and easy to get to the Zoo and Fwy for Legoland to the north. My wife and I stayed at the Kona Kai and were very pleased with the property. You might take a look at the Hacienda Hotel in Old Town San Diego.

http://www.haciendahotel-oldtown.com/accommo.htm

It is centerally located, offers rooms for your dates at $119.00 to $150.00 per night, is one of the nicest hotels in the area, has a heated pool and is within walking distance of Old Town SD and Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.

The only one meeting your beach requirements is the Kona Kai Resort & Spa. The others are Inland and La Jolla is a little further out than San Diego proper. If you want to pay more for the Hyatt Regency in Mission Bay, you are closer to Mission Beach than the hotels in Mission Valley Hotel Circle. All of the hotels are nice, it is just, what do you want, that makes the difference.

THanks...just want to make sure all are ok

After checking since most with a beach were more expensive..the price and POOL were the main priorities.

Sorry, I misread your question and didn't notice the "...of course a beach would be nice."

Besides the Hotels on my San Diego page, including a Travelogue about "Hotel Circle," I have built pages on the beach communities of San Diego, Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Del Mar, Carlsbad, Coronado and Imperial Beach. On each page I have included hotels and motels in varying price ranges. You might take a look.

Some of the hotels you mentioned are located in Mission Valley's "Hotel Circle." The prices for a room at these hotels are usually considerably lower than many others of the same quality simply because Hotel Circle has so much more competition in and around the city.

The price you pay for a room depends on many variables so, it's hard to compare. The Surfer Beach Hotel in Pacific Beach--the most popular beach in SD, and most crowded--is much more expensive than The Sea Coast Inn in Imperial Beach--the "poor cousin" to SD. However, the price of a room at the Sea Coast Inn can be as little as $109.00 to $160.00 per night and has just been renovated. This hotel is right on the beach, has a pool as well as free parking and the same view of the Pacific Ocean as the Surfer Beach Hotel and only two miles further to downtown San Diego.

It's just a matter of priorities.
