Fussen Afternoon tour to Neuschwanstein Castle
Posted: Sat April 25, 2009 05:57 AM UTC
Most,if not all, tours from Munich to this castle starts at 9.30am.Are there any late morning or afternoon tours? If I make it on my own to Fussen station at around noon,is there a tour bus to the castle if I do not wish to take the public bus and would like to avoid the walk up the slope from the bus stop? How much would a taxi ride cost?

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
From: Munich
To: Hohenschwangau

> is there a tour bus to the castle
No. There are no tour buses diretctly to the castle at all. Not in the sense what you think of. All public traffic (car, public bus, tour bus, taxi) ends in Hohenschwangau village. And the public bus stop is there really next to ticket center for Neuschwanstein castle.

From Hohenschwangau to Neuschwanstein Castle you have only following options:
- walking
- horse carriage + short walk
- (special) bus to St. Mary's Bridge (this is not a public road!) + a short walk
See the access map on the bottom of the below page
http://www.hohenschwangau.de/545.0.html

If you arrive late morning/early afternoon it's wise to reserve tickets in advance. Otherwise the next n tours may all already sold out before you arrive at the ticket center. Please keep in mind that you have to collect the reserved tickets latest 1 hour before the tour starts.

You can use the Bavaria Ticket for this trip. Covers all local public transport in Munich, the trains from Munich to Füssen and the buses from Füssen to Hohenschwangau. Valid
Mo-Fr: from 9am till 3am next day
Sa,Su: from midnight till 3am next day
Bavaria Ticket Single (1 person) EUR 20,00
Bavaria Ticket (2-5 persons) EUR 28,00

Thanks for clarifying.I guess if I'm not really into hiking and do not mind not seeing the interior of the castle,I could just take a joy ride to St Mary's Bridge and walk around the area.Someone wrote:

There is a bus that leaves every 20 minutes from the bus stop at hotel Lisl. The bus goes to the Jugend Lookout Point (Marienbrücke / St Mary's Bridge) from where it is about 600 meters or a 10-minute walk on a steep downhill path to the entrance of Castle Neuschwanstein. The bridge offers spectacular views of Castle Neuschwanstein.

Is this bus service run by the hotel?Any idea about the fare, and whether there is a round trip ticket, last bus?

Thanks.

walking down from the castle is easy on an asphalted path and when I remember correctely you would have to walk a steep path up again in order to catch the bus going down, when you have been to "Marienbruecke" so why not taking the easy walk down instead of trying to catch that bus that is going through the woods without any view of the scenic landscape.
