Re: Transportation to Punta Cana and hotel Posted: Fri April 24, 2009 11:42 PM UTC
There's a Quality Hotel about 5 minutes from Santo Domingo airport but it's too far to walk. Since you're 4, a cabbie won't be that expensive (thinking price wise).

I've never been to Punta Cana but I know of 2 options:
- express bus to Bávaro from the Santo Domingo city center and from there a cab
- taxi/transfer
That is, if your hotel doesn't offer transfer.
In both cases, the trip takes about 4 hours. The buses are cheap and don't stop until you're there (or if they do, they stop a few times to let off passengers). The advantage of taking the bus is that you'll have to get to the city center which translates into more economical hotels than the airport one.
If you want to take a transfer service, check into http://dominicanairporttransfers.com/ and http://www.dominicantaxi.com/ (I don't know them but have heard of some who've used it).
I have reputable taxi companies on my Santo Domingo page, if you wanna call and inquiry (dunno if they speak a lot of English). I also have accommodation tips in the city: Old Town and other residential areas, if you guys decide to stay in the city. IMO, that's the best for you guys unless you land late at night and want to depart early in the morning.
Info about the Bávaro bus service: Expreso Santo Domingo Bávaro, 809-682-9670 in Santo Domingo, in Bávaro 809-552-0771, departs in both directions at 7am, 10am, 2pm and 4pm. Confirm with them the timetables.
There's another way to go to Punta Cana by bus and I described that in my Dominican Republic page, transportation section.
Hope it helps.
