Nice safe hotel for Wife and Daughter? Posted: Fri April 24, 2009 03:41 PM UTC
I am seeking hotel recommendations for Panama City and Colon. I am passing through the canal late June/ early July and my wife and daughter will be joining me aboard for the two day passage. However, on each end of the canal, they will need a hotel for a couple of nights. The place should be clean, safe, have A/C and not super pricey. They don't need five stars - just a good two or three!

Hi
I can recommend in Colon, at Shelter Bay Marina, they open a new mini hotel, very nice, clean and you will feel safe there...
In Panama city, they can stay at Granada, very nice, or Executive,

La Estancia B&B is a great place for under $100.US with breakfast included. It is more like a small hotel. It is on Ancon Hill. This is a gated community where the officers lived during the US Canal project. It is beautiful area. A short easy 20 minute walk to the top you can see PC almost 360 degrees. The only drawback is you need to take a taxi 4-8 dollars depending on where you go to get to restaurants and shopping. I highly recommend them! A family place for sure.

If you haven't made a reservation yet, there is a Country Inn Suites on the Canal in Panama City just before the Amador Causeway. There is a TGI Friday's there and has a great view of the Bridge of the Americas. On the website the price for the time you are looking at is $96 for double. It is in a very pretty area and safe, it is mostly commercial around there, govt offices and office buildings, not much residential. It is a safe place and Amador Causeway with it's shops and restaurants is a short drive away.
