Getting to London Liverpool? Posted: Fri April 24, 2009 01:51 PM UTC
Hi there,
What does everyone think about a Cathay flight coming into T3 from Hong Kong scheduled to arrive at 4pm on a Sunday, and my chances of getting to London Liverpool St to get the 8pm train out to Harwich International?
4 hours... But I'm stressed about delays and such. Help!

Yes, allow an hour or so to get out of the airport, an hour into Liverpool St and that leaves you plenty of time for any foreseeable delays. If you do get delayed and are cutting it fine you can always get a (expensive) taxi from Heathrow to Liverpool St. Are you picking up cruise or the ferry to the Netherlands?

Should be ok (apart from flight or baggage delays), especially on a Sunday, but I would suggest you take the overground train into London rather than the coach (or a taxi) to be absolutely sure of avoiding any traffic congestion.
Transport details from Heathrow here:
http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/heathrow.htm
From Gatwick:
http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/gatwick_transport.htm
You will arrive at London Paddington from Heathrow, and London Victoria from Gatwick. You could get at taxi to Liverpool Street, or take the Tube. Tube map here:

Thanks for your answers guys!
I had a look at all the info but the pessimist in me is paranoid about delays... does anyone know stats for Heathrow delays?
That, and it'd be just my luck that my baggage would get lost or something absurd.

So if you are seriously delayed then you can just get the morning ferry - let your travel insurance pick up an overnight hotel bill.

I think the chances of your flight being delayed are probably higher than the chances of a delay within Heathrow itself.
But there is no point in worriting about it. As noted above, if delays mean you miss the train then your insurance will cover you and you can just get the next available train/ferry.
