Porto Sailing Douro from Regua back to Porto - how are the views?

I am looking at a day tour from Porto where you take a train to Regua then sail back.

Is this a good stretch of the river, or would you recommend a different direction?

Have you taken any good tours similar to this one?

Hi, indeed your idea is great and the trip is fantastic. The train rides most of the time next to the river and the views are spectacular. The way back you will see the vineyards and beautifuls houses along the river. There are different type of boats: bigger or smaller, more modern or more traditional (old Douro boats). 2 links for about the cruises. Have fun and

Thank you Joca and Antonio.

The photos of the villa in Pinhao look heavenly! Not sure how easy it will be to get there to stay two days, then visit Guimaraes from Pinhao, but if it works out I may be switching. Thanks again!

You may want to drop http://www.douroazul.pt a note. In my case I could have taken the boat from Pinhao, but you need to figure out the time. I wrote them and they said yes, I could buy the tour without the train.

The area looks so beautiful, and I've heard about it from so many different people, that I decided to stay a night in Pinhao. Now if you take the douroazul boat, you'll be in the boat most of the day. I'm choosing to take a two hour ride in a rabelo arranged by the Vintage House in Pinhao, because after two hours I'm usually ready to get off the boat.
