PACE is a system of buses that serve the suburbs of Chicago. They are express buses that don't make many stops and thereore, make better time.

Pace, Metra, and Chicago Transit Authority are parts of the Regional Transit Authority. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) operates buses and trains in the city. Pace operates buses between the city and the suburbs. Metra operates trains between the city and the suburbs. Below are urls for all of them.

PACE also operates buses in the suburbs to take commuters from stops close to their homes to train stations or area junior colleges. This is how PACE operates in my suburb of Naperville.

We just got back from spending a week in Chicago and made wonderful use of the 7 day unlimited pass. The pass which has an option of use on the PACE line is $28 and when we bought it didn't know if we would use the Pace lines but bought it anyway. Although we didn't get a chance to go on the Pace buses we certainly got our money worth of the pass. The 7 day without the PACE is $23.

While you are in Chicago don't make any plans to go north toward Milwaukee, they just had a huge article in the Chicago Tribune newspaper today that talked about the biggest road construction project in the state of Wisconsin's history while adding more lanes to the main highway between Chicago and Milwaukee.

That is out more in the direction where I live. They are doing construction of that highway also, so be sure you are not traveling the road during our rush hours. If you can be on the road between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. you will be slowed down a little but not as much as the other hours. If you want a more accurate picture of the traffic out in that direction when you get closer to your time here let me know.
